Abstract
This research describes the origin of the Argentine Condor II missile program, the international context in which this plan was carried out by the government of Buenos Aires and the collaboration with Egypt and Iraq during the beginning of the 1980s, pointing out the missile proliferation in those years. The plan was to develop this missile further in Argentina and then pass the technology and design on to Egypt and Iraq. Egypt promised to procure additional technology whilst Iraq had to provide the financing. Because ofdisputes, US political pressures and the intervention of Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) the collaboration with Iraq and Egypt ended in late 1988, after which Baghdad tried to complete the project alone by dealing directly with the supplier companies and relying on its own capabilities. By the way the research surveys the implication of Italian Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in financing the Condor II project during the regime ofSaddam Hussein. Analyzing the origin and the development of this missile program could help us to better understand current possible expansions in the area of space programs, especially in Argentina.
